SIBU: The Southern Zone men and women futsal teams dominated the futsal competition at the Sarawak Games III (SUKSAR III) 2023.

The Women’s futsal final saw a battle between Southern Zone 2 and the Northern Zone where the two teams ended the match in normal time without any goals.

During the first half of extra time, Southern Zone 2 finally scored a goal against the opponent and continued to defend the result until the final whistle with 1-0.

The Southern Zone 2 Women’s Futsal team won gold while the Northern Zone was satisfied finishing with a silver medal. The bronze medal went to the Western Zone.

In the Men’s futsal final, the match between Southern Zone 1 and Southern Zone 2 were also a close contest.

Still, the Southern Zone 2 emerged victorious after a fierce back-and-forth battle with their fellow teammates with the final result at 6-4.

The competition ended with Southern Zone 2 winning gold, followed by Southern Zone 1 winning silver. The bronze medal went to the Northern Zone.

Watching on the sidelines was Malaysia Games (SUKMA) futsal head coach for the Sarawak contingent, Mohamad Faizal Zamri. He was impressed with the performances of each team in the final.

“The final match was quite interesting because the players of both teams showed great performances throughout the competition.

“The players were so enthusiastic despite the clash with each other in the final action,” said Faizal.
